Our History

The Achuar Shakaim Agricultural Cooperative was established in March 2013 thanks to the initiative of 14 native communities of the Achuar ethnic group, located in the Huitoyacu and Huasaga river basins, in the district of Andoas, Datem del Marañón province, Loreto region.

We were created with the aim of organizing ourselves, strengthening our communal economy, and generating sustainable opportunities while respecting our culture and the Amazon rainforest.

Our Purpose

We work to improve the well-being, quality of life, and economic, cultural, and social development of our Achuar partners through the production, processing, and marketing of agricultural crops and Amazonian forest resources.

We promote communal and associative agriculture as a tool for sustainable development and environmental conservation.

Our mission

Offering organic products through ongoing training for our partners and their families, strengthening women’s participation, and developing sustainable economic activities that enable us to conserve our forests and preserve our ancestral culture.

our vision

To be a competitive cooperative by 2026, with members trained in the sustainable management of the chocolate bio-business, using fine, aromatic native cocoa, ensuring responsible production that does not contribute to deforestation and that contributes to the comprehensive development of our communities.

Committed to the Forest

Our work is based on the sustainable use of non-timber forest resources such as aguaje, ungurahui, copaiba, and sangre de grado. In addition, we have 40 hectares of native Amazonian cocoa cultivated using responsible practices.

We protect Amazonian wetlands, promote the associative economy, and ensure that our productive activities respect the natural balance of the territory.
